chillum is a straight conical smoking pipe traditionally made of clay, first used in India in the eighteenth century. A small stone was often used as a stopper in the stem. The style of pipe spread quickly to Africa, and became known in the Americas starting in the 1960s. A chillum pipe is often used in Rastafarian rituals.
